2009 Induction Ceremony
NEWLY ELECTED & RE-ELECTED OFFICIALS TO BE INDUCTED
The Board Office is pleased to announce that a special ceremony for the induction (swearing-in) of newly elected and re-elected county officials will be held on Monday, January 12, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. in the Board’s hearing room, located on the third floor of the County Administration Building in downtown Olathe.
As provided in state law, county officials are to be sworn-in on the second Monday in January following the General Election in November. By long-standing tradition, the Board Office has helped to plan and organize these ceremonies, which are usually held mid-morning on that date. The inaugural ceremonies include a brief introduction of each official by a person of their choosing, followed by brief remarks from each of the officials to be inducted. After each official concludes their comments, the Chief Judge of the Tenth Judicial District Court will administer the oath of office.
Which officials will be inducted in January?
In accordance with the certified results of the November 2008 General Election, the following county officials will be sworn-in as part of the January 12th ceremony:
Jim Allen, Commissioner, Second District
David A. Lindstrom, Commissioner, Third District
Calvin Hayden, Commissioner, Sixth District
Steve Howe, District Attorney
Frank Denning, Sheriff
A reception honoring all of these officials will immediately follow the conclusion of the induction ceremony. The ceremony and reception are open to the public.
When is the first meeting of the new Board of County Commissioners?
The first meeting of the new Board of County Commissioners for the 2009 Session will be Thursday, January 15, 2009, at 9:30 a.m. This is the first meeting after the induction of new Members.
Please note, however, that a final meeting of the 2008 Board of County Commissioners is planned for the preceding week, Thursday, January 8. This will be the final meeting of that body prior to reorganizing the new Membership of the Board of County Commissioners as a result of the induction of newly elected and re-elected Members.
If you have questions or concerns about the induction ceremony and related inaugural activities, please contact the Clerk of the Board at BOCC-Clerk.
